UEFA opens disciplinary case against Fenerbahce's Guendouzi and Greenwood

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Fenerbahce’s Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood after the second leg of their Champions League playoff match against Olympique Lyonnais. The Turkish club confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.

Fenerbahce said it will defend its players before UEFA bodies. The proceedings follow an incident after Fenerbahce’s 2-1 win in Lyon last month.

Guendouzi and Greenwood allegedly made provocative gestures toward Lyon supporters. A brawl then broke out as Guendouzi left the pitch. Players and coaching staff from both sides clashed on and off the field, disrupting the visitors’ celebrations.

Fenerbahce advanced to the Champions League league phase with a 3-2 aggregate victory. The club stated that it is also under scrutiny as part of the same process.

A UEFA spokesperson confirmed that all aspects of the match remain under review by the disciplinary body.
