Salinas recounted that he and his girlfriend were at the restaurant for lunch before planning to go horse riding. When the shooting began, Salinas instinctively ran towards the gunfire, driven by a response he described as "automatic" and "mechanical." He had trained to handle firearms following a previous shooting incident in 2021 and utilized his training to confront the attacker.
Salinas followed a methodical approach he had practiced—"observe, orient, decide, act"—and returned fire, which he believes deterred the shooter. Despite the danger, Salinas reported feeling no fear during the confrontation.

Salinas’ actions have been widely praised on social media, with many commending his bravery. In a statement on his Facebook page, Salinas expressed gratitude for the support he received and emphasized his thoughts are with the victims and their families.

Information about Chad Williams, the shooter, remains limited. Witnesses described him as carrying an AR-style rifle and appearing panicked. Lane Koehn, a witness to the event, noted that Williams seemed indecisive and was focused on confronting the armed bystander, which allowed other people to escape.
Koehn credited Salinas for preventing further tragedy, stating, "The shooter was solely focused on him, allowing us to get out. The car directly ahead of me was getting shot—it gave them time to leave."
