Eyewitness accounts from residents indicated that Israeli forces employed various crowd control measures, including firing live ammunition, stun grenades, and tear gas canisters. In addition to the injuries, a wave of arrests swept across the occupied West Bank. Palestinian media outlets documented the detention of at least ten individuals on the same Friday, with arrests occurring in various locations including Nablus, Tal, Salem, and Bethlehem. Settler Activities and Military Responses
The recent surge in activity began with Israeli settlers, accompanied by soldiers, entering the town of Tal and other areas near Nablus. Verified video footage circulated online depicted a substantial presence of Israeli soldiers in Tal, further corroborating reports from Al Jazeera correspondents who observed settlers and soldiers moving through the Ain al-Mazrab area of Tal and the al-Ameriya area west of Nablus before their departure.
In an official statement, the Israeli military acknowledged that “Israeli civilians” had entered Area A of the occupied West Bank, a zone where their presence is prohibited under Israeli law. The statement confirmed that all individuals had since left the Nablus vicinity. It also mentioned that reports of vandalism at a Palestinian cemetery had been received, indicating potential damage to cultural sites during the incursions.
Prior to these events, on a Thursday morning, Israeli forces had conducted a raid in Tal, during which four Palestinian homes were reportedly seized and subsequently converted into military barracks. This action coincided with calls from Israeli settlers for a large-scale march on Tal, intended as a retaliatory measure for the deaths of two Israelis. These individuals were part of a group of settlers who had attacked the town the previous week, an incident that resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians and numerous injuries. The preceding Thursday evening saw another incident where a man sustained gunshot injuries to his neck when Israeli soldiers reportedly fired upon his vehicle in the town of Beita, south of Nablus.
